The project
Mercury wanted images that could reintroduce their fluid performance persona while resisting a single, fixed reading. The shoot moves through several visual identities rather than trying to reconcile them into one.
The approach
I borrowed the precision of beauty and sports advertising, then unsettled it with body paint, sculptural poses, hard black space and saturated purple light. The controlled setup gave Mercury room to push gesture and physicality much further.
What remained
The resulting series feels both polished and unstable: a body treated as reflective surface, sculpture and character.
